Once started as the blog, but that has changed with this site, however it’s still online but now as a forum.
It’s still the vault for the old blog but can now be used as a real forum, whatever you want to ask Frank or each other, share information, want some critique on images it can all be done there.
But you can also read reviews, comments about the workshops and much more, and the fun thing ? the forum keeps growing.

I believe there is, you have a profile option when you register and via that you should be able to set a profile image.

I checked there and it seems to be Missing. no biggy. Or maybe not looking in the right place. there is a dashboard button a color layout and password and other settings including web site AIM etc. no Avatar Will check with James Cameron , no, sorry Google

I added a plugin for custom avatars so it should be possible now.

WordPress powered websites used an avatar recognition system. You need to sign up @ http://www.gravatar.com and verify your email address. After completing the sign up form you will be able to bind an avatar with your address. After that it will published your personal image on different blog/board when you are using your registered mail address.

  I used Leaf Capture for that.
  But in real live any software will do.
  As long as it’s YOUR workflow, don’t do it in another workflow than you use.

Knap werk, mooie app.Ik werk zeer recent met een PhaseOne en de Schneider 80mm/2.8…kan een Mamiya 75-150mm overkopen van een collega…Ik twijfel tss de 75-150 of een SChneider110m/2.8. Ik doe vooral potretfotografie. Wat is jouw mening hierover. Ik kan nergens een review vinden over de 75-150mm, heb jij er al mee gewerkt.Alvast bedankt voor een reactie.

  de 110mm f2.8 is erg mooi voor portret werk op MF.
  De 75-150 vind ik ook erg mooi, heb die een tijd geleden gereviewed toen hij net uit was, op http://www.doorhof.nl/forum kun je de review nog wel vinden.

    There seems to be so many ways of doing metering you can get total headwarp lol
    I used to spot meter everything.Col neg. +2ev on skin, or -1ev for my darks (i like overexposure) Slide I meter my darkest and lightest points, make a judgment, filter for highlights.
    But now Im trying this…for portraits…For backlight shots; I meter with bulb in, pointing meter towards camera, and depending if i want to overexpose a lot i point the meter towards the floor (unless there is some very bright light source below which could throw out the meter)
    If in flat light, i’ll do the same but push it more, by adding +ev or rating the film lower.

      We meter to get a correct exposure, meaning incident towards the lightsource in most cases, if you want to chance that… no problem but at least the basis is correct.
      
      The way you describe metering is actually not really what the meter is intended for, it’s… well I don’t know I would just skip the meter in that case and shoot
      
      I don’t mean to offend you in any way by the way, it’s just that the meter will give you a starting point that’s “perfect” if you use it correctly. The way you describe metering is just pointing it somewhere and work from there, that’s more a creative process. NOW… if you repeat the same process over and over again to get the same look… well that’s what the meter is for

  First of all loose the light at the back, it’s used a lot and to be honest I never really liked it , think about composition and angles, and the light can be a bit more “contrasty” but that’s personal, sometimes a totally lit scene can also be beautiful.
  
  Look at the original and see the difference in angle and composition.

frank i am new at ur blog and very much impressed with your lighting and ur
work, get to know about u from kelby training, I am armature photographer from India and doing lots of education
institutes photographs like students in classroom (Classroom Size is around
20ft. x 30ft and student strength is 200 and i have shoot these kind of
photographs, and meanwhile i have to take students close-up as well so I can
show the students activities in the classroom, i have two set of lights one is
FX200 and another one is FX400 from Elinchrome and i am using Canon D5 Mark2
with a lense of 24-70 2.8 i am attaching some of my snaps which i know not only
worse but more than that will you be kind enough to tell me how should i place
my lights to lit the room evenly so that classroom looks like well lighted and
with the same setup i can take close-ups of the students. I want a lighting as my sample titled picture can u suggest me how it can be achieved.thanks

  What you can do is place them low aimed at the ceiling or a wall you don’t shoot. This way the reflections will light the group, and because the surface is large you will have a nice soft quality of light.

Strobe failing to flash on occasion when using the modeling light.
Thanks to Frank, I recently purchased the Quadra Ranger “S” kit and have been absolutely thrilled with the results. On the first several shoots, the system performed flawlessly and the battery powered far more images that I thought it would. However, on the last three shoots, I’ve kept the modeling light on continuously and have noticed occasions where the strobe did not flash. For example, I just shot 366 images and out of those, the strobed did not fire on 16 images. I generally use a power rating between 3.0 and 4.0. Has anyone else experienced this level of failure rate? On my next shoot I’m going to use my backup Skyport transmitter to better isolate the problem.

  I actually never shoot with the modeling lights on to be honest on the rangers or quadras, but it could be that recycling is slower and you will 1-2 shots that way in a series.

Hi Frank,
I am going to use a Phase One camera for the first time in my next shoot on saturday. When I went to try it during a Phase One conferance I had an hard time getting the focus mask in the right place. Meaning, I tried to center the eyes of the model in the large circle in the vewfinder, but it allways look like the focus is everywhere but in the eyes when I take picture that way. I was wondering if you could explain to me how to make sure that the eye are in focus when shooting headshot or full length images.

  It will take some getting used to, I just focus on the closest eye (focus on slow/accurate) and recompose and shoot, that’s about it.
