Elinchrom Beauty Dish instructional video

Today an instructional video for the use of the Elinchrom Beauty Dish.
If you also want to start working with the Beauty dish (and want to support our work :D) order it via this link.
Elinchrom Softlite 17” Reflector (Silver)

This video was meant as an informercial.
For the more in depth instructional material I would point you towards our instructional DVDs/downloads at www.frankdoorhof.com/shop2 or www.kelbytraining.com but I still think you’re gonna enjoy the tips shared in this video 🙂

Very commercial this video, I expected to find more info on how to use and place the beauty dish itself. Does it has to be far, close, how does his light is different than a regular softbox ?
The video is named “instructional video” so that what I expected to see.
Now I know that Elinchrom has a beaty dish with a grid a diffuser, that’s all 🙂

Maybe watch it again and get the tips on the meter, the deflector colors/types, inverse square law, controlling contrast ??

Or…. Get one if our instructional videos from http://www.frankdoorhof.com/shop2 those are not free but contain loads of instructional material (real ;))

These videos are free and done for Elinchrom. They are aimed at someone wanting to buy the product. We will do a few more like these. Call them infomercials if you like 😉

The real instructional stuff is via the shop or kelbytraining. You’re gonna love those.

FRank to be honnest I have already viewed your videos on kelbytraining, that’s why after viewing these I was a bit dissapointed.
Stuff with lightmeter, yes I know, even at fotokina, we discussed a bit there, you already pinpointed his importance.
For the beauty dish, I have the big one from elinchrom and I have already heard different versions about his placement: close to the model or a bit further. personally I think that close to the face gives a good result. If you put further, it acts more like a softbox, except (like you mention in your very latest post) adding a vignette.
But Ok it was a free video for Elinchrom 😉

That’s it, it’s a free video and a LOT of people did not yet see all my videos, KT stuff etc 😀

It’s an infomercial video and it’s free, so it can actually never disappoint 😀

Great results from a simple lighting set up (with lightmeter). I hope you offer more, ‘you can do this too’, videos like this! Thanks.

    Hi Frank,

when I attach the deflector on the pin that I stick into the strobe, there is a square hole on one side, suggesting that the round side should to towards the lightbulb of the flash. But looking at the video you use it the other way round. Is there a special reason to do this? Or is it something that Elinchrom might have changed in recent versions?

Hey Frank, How about posting three images, one from each set up, side by side and labeled “reflector only, With sock, and with grid, so we can see how they compare? Please?

I also like to put on the sock and the grid to get the fall off I like with the more creamy skin tones.

Frank, I greatly appreciate these “free Infomercials, and look forward to view more of the paid videos. I do have one question, it appears that you focus just above the center of the picture. And before you actually take the shot you lower the camera. What is the purpose?
